WELCOME TO OUR INDIGENOUS WORLD!

Up-Lifting, Anti-Bullying, Environmentally Friendly Show

  1. An understanding of contemporary issues starts with knowledge of pre-European contact. We were a resilient, egalitarian people with sophisticated political, economic and social communities.
  2. Our knowledge base starts with our respect for the land. We are the original environmentalists. Take what we need leave the rest.
  3. Core knowledge that crosses most Indigenous communities: Medicine Wheel, importance of the Circle, meaning of the numbers four and seven.
  4. We are the original environmentalists, living in harmony with life below, upon and above Mother Earth.
  5. Over time Indigenous history has been rewritten in various areas to suit the agendas of different groups, i.e., the role of women.
  6. Truth & Reconciliation, Residential Schools, 60s Scoop, Indian Act. The recent discovery of the bones of our children has changed national thinking. Let’s talk. (NOTE: Not all topics can be addressed in the time frame available. Educators should indicate ahead of time which topic(s) to emphasize).
  7. An Indigenous perspective of social media.
  8. Knowledge about the Sacred Pipe.

“Shannon, your presentation was one of the best I have ever seen at Lourdes. It was so wonderful to see an auditorium full of teenagers dancing and singing and learning to appreciate First Nations culture while valuing themselves.  The students raved about you and Sandy.”
(Yvonne Runstedler, Department Head- Theology and Family Studies, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic High School, Guelph, ON)
