North American Indigenous Cultures

Statement from Shannon Thunderbird

We website dispels myths, stereotypes and biases by offering AN ACCURATE world view from an "Indian" perspective. The Internet is full of inaccuracies. I am not here to accuse; you are not here to apologize for often tragic post-European contact relationships. My website simply casts a bright and truthful light on a people who have been neglected in North America's history, and overall view of itself. You should leave this site with, (a) more informed, mindful views of the vibrant Indigenous cultures continue to thrive all across Turtle Island, (b) the heavy price Native people paid and continue to pay, and (c) a renewed appreciation of the role of Aboriginal people in the rich cultural diversity that IS NORTH AMERICA. Wilwilaaysk, All My Relations.

"Shannon is passionate about bringing her peoples' story to the youth of Canada. I have observed her presentations many times...and she continues to engage our young people in a very memorable interaction. Her message is one of understanding and respect and her workshop on the teachings of the Medicine Wheel dovetail beautifully into the Character Traits teachings in our schools. Shannon is a vote for wisdom and tolerance." (L. McGregor, Foundation for Enriching Education)

"How can I thank you enough? What luck for us to have met you - your work, presentation and greetings taught us so much, and re-enforced for me why we all work so damn hard!  The opening, closing songs were an inspiration. The session was educational. The choir was magical! We look forward to working with you in the future. (A. Adair, (former) Executive Director, ArtsSmarts)
